As the underdog up against a powerhouse in the Big East, Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans somehow managed to book their spot in the Sweet 16 round, thanks in large part to the performance of star Tyson Walker against the Marquette Golden Eagles. But Izzo still wants more from Walker and it's got nothing to do with basketball.
“I want a cab ride, and one of those big slices of pizza,” Tom Izzo said after the win over the Golden Eagles, jokingly making his demands known to Walker (h/t Brad Galli). “He can pay for it with his NIL money,” Izzo added.
Tom Izzo has just steered the Spartans to the Sweet 16 round despite being just a No. 7 seed in this year's edition of March Madness. Walker, of course, played a huge role in the win against Marquette, pacing his team with 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting from the field with two rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while also not committing a single turnover.
Article Continues BelowWith their win, Tom Izzo and the Spartans are headed to New York — thus the cabs and pizza requests — where they will be meeting the No.3 Kansas State Wildcats, who beat the Kentucky Wildcats in the second round.
Michigan State opened its 2023 NCAA tournament with a rousing 72-62 victory over the USC Trojans before taking care of business in the second round, which also means that the Spartans have already bested their performance in last year's March Madness when they got knocked out of the Round of 32 by the Duke Blue Devils.
