New York Knicks rookie center Marshall Plumlee got a taste of what a New York minute is really like when he was recalled from the Knicks D-League affiliate in Westchester to fill in for an ill Joakim Noah.

The undrafted big man said he took a train from White Plains to Grand Central Station, hopped into a cab and “paid” the driver “to run a red light.” Then, because of usual New York traffic, he got out and sprinted the last few blocks. Plumlee arrived during the later stages of the first quarter.

When asked how much it costed to run a red light in the Big Apple, the 24-year-old told Newsday's Al Iannazzone:

“Apparently 60 bucks.”

While a ticket for running a red light costs $50 to $100 for a first offense in the state if only recorded by a camera (not stopped by police), it could be as much as $300 for an offense committed in a city of more than a million inhabitants.

So we can say the rookie got off well in that exchange. The 7-footer only played five minutes and 26 seconds in his NBA debut, collecting a rebound and a foul in the process.

The Knicks managed to pull off a 104-94 win over the Atlanta Hawks. While not the flashiest of debuts, the youngest of the Plumlees will sure have a story to tell his older brothers Miles and Mason.
