The Dallas Mavericks could make the most of their No. 5 overall selection in this year's draft, looking to add a key talent this offseason in hopes to give Dirk Nowitzki the farewell season he deserves and fortify their roster with some decent cogs already in place.

“It is what it is. The good news is there are a number of players that are in there that we feel really, really good about,” said Mavericks president and general manager Donnie Nelson, according to The Dallas Morning News. “Everyone pretty much has Ayton at the top of the food chain, and then after that there's a good chunk of players that goes certainly past five, well past five, that we feel really really good about.”

The Mavs have been rumored to look for the next best center available after Ayton, which would be Texas Longhorns product Mo Bamba, giving the Mavs a 1-3-5 exoskeleton based around point guard Dennis Smith Jr., small forward Harrison Barnes, and Bamba at center.

Yet any notion that they could find a trade partner and move up or down in the draft isn't in the realm of possibility, having found their place of comfort with this pick.

“I don't think we'll look to trade out of the draft,” said Nelson. “We're excited about the young nucleus with Dennis Smith, and obviously Harrison kind of grabbing the torch and providing the leadership role that Dirk has provided over the years. We're excited about getting another young, impact guy we can add to the mix.”
