On Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks held an amazing, inspirational jersey retirement ceremony for Dirk Nowitzki. It was a truly amazing evening. Nowitzki's 2011 Mavs teammates were in attendance, including Peja Stojakovic, JJ Barea, Tyson Chandler and Caron Butler. The 2011 Mavs team are the only ones in the organizations 41 year history to have reached the peak, winning the NBA Championship.

Thursday evening, Dirk Nowitzki took to Twitter to send a kind, heartfelt message.

“Thank you for a special night, that I will always remember. To all, who reached out the last few days, thank you. I appreciate you all.”

Nowitzki has always been known as a man of great character. That was once again felt from his message.

Dirk Nowitzki is considered the greatest international player in NBA history. He leads the Mavs franchise in games and minutes played, rebounds, blocks, free throws and three pointers made. He is the only player in Dallas Mavericks history to win league MVP and NBA Finals MVP. Dirk led them to the playoffs in 12 consecutive seasons, including the most regular season wins in franchise history with 67 in 2006-2007.

Earlier Wednesday night, the Mavs beat the NBA's leading team, the Golden State Warriors, 99-82. The juice in the building knowing it was such a momentous night certainly had a hand in the win.

The Mavericks once again have one of the best foreign born players in the league. Luka Doncic took the league by storm his rookie season and has not looked back. Doncic is considered one of the best all-around players in the NBA and is only 22 years old.
