Dallas Maverick star Dirk Nowitzki' turned 40 years old today and probably got the most epic birthday greeting from his trainer. The Mavs legend and future Hall-of-Famer posted his trainer's message on Twitter.

It was long and savage as his trainer, Mike Procopio, listed down Nowitzki's great 40's in his life:

Speaking with FortyOne Magazine, Nowitzki looked back to when he was still new to the NBA at the tender age of 20 years.

“I was twenty when I came to the league. At that time we played AC Green and “Hot Rod” Williams, who were both in their forties. They always told me stories from earlier. Old stuff, but that was terribly interesting for me.”

Now, he considers himself as the ‘elder.' For Nowitzki, it's the main reason why he's still playing basketball at this point in his life:

“Now I am the elder and the boys are new to the league. ‘The Circle of Life.' That's where a circle comes in – and it's also an important reason why I'm still doing this: to make it easier for the boys to make the breakthrough with my experience. I find that fun.”

Nowitzki shared that he does some mentoring to his younger teammates. But at the end of the day, he still focuses on his own thing:

“I do not go to the hall every day to fulfill my role model function. I just try to be myself and have fun with the boys. I try to show them through consistent work how to improve. If I notice something, then I discuss it with them. ‘Hey, I'd do it one way or the other.' But of course I still try to do my own thing. Above all: to have fun with the game.”
