Sources: The Dallas Mavericks are signing 33rd overall pick Jalen Brunson of Villanova to a four-year rookie deal, with three years guaranteed.
Although the exact financial details of Brunson’s salary is yet to be released, Eddie Sefko of SportsDay, estimates that the former Villanova Wildcats star is going to receive $1.5 million in his first year as in the NBA.
The Mavericks have officially signed Jalen Brunson. The 33rd pick was expected to get a multiyear deal worth similar to what the last picks of the first round received — about $1.5 million for his rookie season.
Jalen Brunson decided to forego his last year of eligibility in the NCAA after a successful stint as a junior in Villanova in which he averaged 18.9 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds in 40 games played. He was an efficient scorer in college, recording a 51.0 field goal percentage and shooting 39.3 percent from deep in three years with the Wildcats.
Brunson, son of former NBA player Rick Brunson, struggled a bit in this year’s Summer League campaign, as he averaged only 6.8 points on an atrocious 23.0 percent shooting from the field in five games in Las Vegas, but he has plenty of time left in this offseason to improve.
Brunson will operate in a Dallas’ backcourt that also features the likes of Dennis Smith Jr., Luka Doncic, and J.J. Barea.
