Amid myriad scandals, Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday that Facebook will be rebranding to Meta as the company transitions to a focus on the metaverse, whatever that means. Of course, in the sports world, this led to many people making the same Metta World Peace joke over and over.

The man himself took to social media to give his thoughts on the Facebook name change to Meta:

It's no surprise that Metta World Peace likes this name change to Meta. Plenty of people will surely associate this new Facebook name to the former Los Angeles Lakers forward. He made that clear with his note about his phone ringing off the hook.

Maybe there will be some collaboration between the two parties in the future to help market the product. Metta World Peace in a Meta commercial? Don't rule it out.

It will be interesting to see how this Facebook rebranding ultimately goes. Facebook has become something of a dumpster fire that has been exposed for playing a massive role in misinformation around the globe. Once just a fun way for students to connect, it has become way too big, powerful and dangerous.

Now they want to get into the virtual reality space, and it's kind of scary to think about. We'll see how this plays out, as will Metta World Peace.
