It feels there may not be another player in the NBA whose value is as polarizing as Tyler Herro. Some believe he is a future All-Star, while others seem to think is close to maxing out on his talents. The Miami Heat have been active on the trade market and Herro has been a common name connected to this.
Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report recently dropped an article to give some clarity on where the Heat’s stance on Herro is amid trade pursuits of Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell:
“Both Barrett and Herro are expected to command maximum paydays… And regardless of the trade outcomes, there's a greater sense of optimism among NBA executives that Miami will come to terms with Herro prior to the 2022-23 campaign. ‘They always seem to pay their guys,' one assistant general manager said.”
It once again is clear the NBA is in a state of stalemate. So many moves seem dependent on these big trade dominos to fall, and Tyler Herro fits this category. The Heat standout is an intriguing talent. At 22 years old, there is still plenty of time for him to continue developing. Just last season, the Kentucky product averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Herro also shot a career-high 39.9% on 3-point attempts.
Regardless, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year is sure to have a bright future whether it is in Miami or not. If the franchise has a chance at Durant or Mitchell, this is certainly a reason to move on from Herro.
However, the talented guard is a pretty solid backup plan to have. It appears the future of Herro’s payday may be reliant on if the Heat can receive any traction in a big-name trade. But don’t be surprised if he ends up cashing a major check with the organization at the offseason’s end based on Miami's track record.
