For already the second time in the still young 2021-22 NCAA basketball season, Juwan Howard and his Michigan Wolverines have been defeated by an unranked opponent, as they lost to the Arizona Wildcats Sunday, 80-62, in the Roman Main Event held in Las Vegas.

The Wildcats dominated Michigan from start to finish, with any hope for a comeback by the Wolverines effectively squashed by Arizona in a strong second-half showing. Not a lot clicked for Michigan, as it shot just 43.4 percent from the field and was a horrendous 1-of-14 (7.1 percent) from behind the arc.

Howard summed up Michigan's performance in an honest take following the game.

Via the Associated Press/ESPN:

“They could get anything they wanted anytime they wanted,” Michigan coach Juwan Howard said. “That's the only game thus far that we've allowed a team to do that.”

Michigan's loss to Arizona came almost a week after the Wolverines got upset by the Seton Hall Pirates in Ann Arbor, 67-65.

Eli Brooks led the Wolverines with 14 points to go with five rebounds, while Hunter Dickinson chipped in 11 points and seven boards for Michigan, which drops to a 3-2 record. That's not the kind of start Howard wanted for the Wolverines, especially after reaching the Elite Eight round of the national tournament back in March.
