Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo is one of the names that has most frequently been floated ahead of the 2022 MLB trade deadline. With the deadline less than a month away, his market is beginning to materialize. It should come as no surprise that the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly among the teams at the forefront of conversations, having already engaged in trade talks with the Reds, according to Jon Morosi.

It seems that the Dodgers are doing their due diligence on Castillo early, getting involved in talks with the Reds with a few weeks to go until the trade deadline, which is on August 2. They'll certainly face competition to land Castillo at the deadline, and he'll carry a pretty significant cost considering he'll be under team control through the 2023 season.

The Dodgers certainly have the assets to facilitate a trade for Castillo, but they'll have to outdo the other pitching-needy teams that will have the Reds' ace on their radar.

Castillo isn't the only Reds pitcher expected to be available, as Tyler Mahle has been listed as a potential trade piece, too. The Dodgers are looking to get back to the World Series this season, and adding Castillo to round out their starting rotation. An acquisition of Castillo would likely result in Mitch White getting moved into a long-relief duty, unless the Dodgers opt for a six-man rotation.

This season in Cincinnati, Castillo has recorded a 2.92 ERA across his first 12 starts. The 29-year-old has pitched 71.0 innings this year, striking out 74, walking 23, and allowing 5 home runs.
