YouTube is much like TikTok’s older brother, in a sense that it gave many Internet personalities to build their brand and fame, and increase their platform’s reach. One of those personalities is Jimmy Donaldson a.k.a. MrBeast, who rose to fame back in 2017. Let’s dig into MrBeast’s net worth in 2022.
MrBeast’s net worth in 2022 (Estimate): $25 million
MrBeast’s net worth in 2022 is $25 million. This is according to numerous outlets, including Celebrity Net Worth.
Jimmy Donaldson was born on May 7, 1998. He was raised in Greenville, North Carolina alongside a brother called CJ. He later attended Greenville Christian Academy and graduated in 2016. Donaldson suffers from Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel condition. After getting diagnosed back in his ninth grade, he has since gone through the extreme discomfort and excruciating pain by way of medication and a strict diet. The then 18-year-old enrolled in East Carolina University for college, but dropped out in fall 2016 after attending for two weeks. It was around that time when he would start to pull a decent number of subscribers into his YouTube account.
13-year-old Jimmy created MrBeast6000 back in 2012, and uploaded his first-ever video in February of that same year. Until around 2014, Donaldson stayed pretty low-key, with content like Let’s Plays, YouTube creator tips, and YouTube drama commentary. By 2013, his subscriber count was still around 240.
The North Carolina kid started to take in quite a significant amount of subscribers when he started posting a series of videos about YouTuber introductions. He hit 30,000 subscribers by mid-2016. However, this number was not nearly as much — a famous YouTuber has at least six digits, after all.
At that point, he had just quit college. His mother had told him to move out of his home. He had to think of something that would help him reach out to a wider audience. And in January 2017, MrBeast uploaded a video of himself counting to 100,000. At last, he found what the algorithm (and the audience) wanted — something outrageous. All of this helped to add to MrBeast’s net worth in 2022.
Nowadays, MrBeast videos regularly amass millions of views in a span of days. Through viral giveaway campaigns and videos with incredulous premises, it shouldn’t come as a suprise that Forbes labeled him the highest-paid YouTube star. At 90.5 million subscribers, he brought in $54 million in 2021.
Outside of YouTube, Donaldson has branched out into other project. One of them is BeastBurger, a virtual restaurant that serves customers via online delivery. Donaldson has also invested and partnered up with several startups and companies. One of these startups is Backbone, which produces Backbone One, a controller that turns iPhones into somewhat of a gaming console.
With a platform as big as his, MrBeast had his fair share of controversy. Back in 2019, the 23-year-old was accused of using “movie” money for one of his videos. He later confirmed that it was indeed counterfeit money, but that it was for safety and security risks. Instead, he opted to exchange these for a real check afterwards. New York Times also reported 11 employees under Donaldson who has accused the online creator of creating a toxic workplace. One of those was editor Nate Anderson, who spoke of MrBeast’s allegedly unreasonable demands. MrBeast has since claimed that the allegations were false, and that aside from paying them well, he has treated all of his employees fairly.
The 23-year-old YouTuber has received several awards for his content over the past two years. In 2019, MrBeast was named in the 9th Streamy Awards as Breakout Creator, along with being nominated for Ensemble Cast and Creator of the Year. 2020 solidified the peak of Donaldson’s fame, and his awards reflected it. He was YouTuber of the Year in the 12th Annual Shorty Awards, and swept all the categories he was nominated for in the 10th Streamy Awards, including Creator of the Year. 2021 was yet another good year for Donaldson, where he again won Creator of the Year in the 11th Streamy Awards.
Off his immensely popular online platform, MrBeast has had several other ventures. Donaldson teamed up with YouTuber Mark Rober for a collaborative fundraising challenge called #TeamTrees, which received over $23.5 million. They two followed it up later with #TeamSeas. The young North Carolina native also created the channel Beast Philanthropy, which donates all of its revenue and sales for charity. AP News reported back in December 2021 that Beast Philanthropy has given over 1.1 million pounds of food. They have also helped feed struggling households in the Greenville, and delivered hot meals for the Louisiana victims of Hurricane Ida.
