Former New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors All-Star David Lee called it a career last week via Instagram. That was also where former teammate Marreese Speights delivered a touching congratulatory post to celebrate Lee’s retirement.

Lee and Speights were only a few years apart as players at the University of Florida, but they did spend two years as teammates with the Warriors. They were both part of the 2014-15 championship-winning team, by which point Speights had actually overtaken Lee as a more integral cog of the Warriors rotation.

It was a sweet gesture from Speights, who is now with the Orlando Magic, but likely not alone in wishing Lee the best, as he was widely considered a very good teammate, as well as a true professional.

Lee very easily could’ve made a much larger issue of getting replaced by Draymond Green in the Warriors’ starting lineup during their championship-winning season, but he accepted his new role like a pro and kept the team's chemistry intact as a result.

On the bright side, though, at least Lee got to spend some more time hanging out with his fellow Gator Speights on the Warriors bench during that season, also earning a ring, one which he should spend some time admiring now that he's happily retired and engaged to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
