The New York Knicks have seemingly been in a rebuild ever since the heyday of Patrick Ewing, and the 2019-20 season is no different. The newest name in the rumor mill is Bobby Portis.

According to Ian Begley of SNY.TV, multiple teams are interested in Portis’s services.

The Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are among the contenders that have expressed interest in the 24-year-old power forward. Beyond those big-name franchises, the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers have also shown a willingness to trade for the young veteran in order to try and make a push for the playoffs – or at least the Western Conference eighth seed.

Bobby Portis is putting up what are roughly typical numbers throughout his career: 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game on 44.3 percent shooting from the field.

Last season, Portis shot a career-high 39.3 percent from downtown on a career-best 30.4 percent 3-point attempt rate. This season with the Knicks, that attempt rate is even higher at 34.6 percent, and he is still shooting a solid 38.2 percent.

Almost any team could use Portis on the offensive end, but his defensive acumen is surely a cause for concern. After all, he has never been known for his brilliance on that end.

Still, most teams in the NBA – whether contending or not – are looking for big-bodied, burly wings to get some buckets for them and at least know where to be on defense. Portis should fit that bill, as the Knicks once again look to accrue some assets with outgoing veterans.
