The trash-talking stories between Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird (as well as Christian Laettner) on the 1992 Dream Team are legendary in NBA lore. Fans saw a glimpse of it during the recent installment of the “The Last Dance” that featured footage of the heated Monte Carlo scrimmage.

On Tuesday, MJ-confidant Ahmad Rashad (who was also heavily featured in the recent episodes) offered some more insight into the Dream Team smack-talk.

“We are sitting in a room in a hotel in Barcelona—Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson…there is a conversation going on on ‘who had the best team?'… Larry Bird makes Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley stop talking totally because they never won a championship. So the conversation is about Boston, the Lakers, and Chicago,” the former NBA Inside Stuff host shared.

“Then, it moves forward onto ‘who is the best individual player?' Now, Michael and Magic got into it…Michael gets very upset and says, ‘Listen…I'm telling you Larry, and I'm telling you Magic: if you don't quit, every time I see you next year I am busting your ass.' … After time went by, Larry Bird finally just looks over at Magic and he says, ‘Magic, you know, you and I were then, and Michael Jordan is now.'”

As Bird knew at the time, the Dream Team capped Jordan's ascendance as the new face of the sport. At one point during the Monte Carlo scrimmage, Jordan even said to Magic, “This is the '90s”.

On Monday, Johnson recalled how the 1998 NBA All-Star game matchup between Jordan and Kobe Bryant reminded him of passing the torch to Jordan on the Dream Team (though, let's be honest, it wasn't passed as His Airness took it).
