It was earlier revealed the Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens turned down a massive offer from Indiana University to take over as the head coach of the Hoosiers. The 44-year-old has since spoken out about the issue as he explained exactly why he said no to a $70 million deal.

According to Stevens, he's more than happy with his role in Boston and he never considered leaving:

“I wasn’t going to leave anyways,” Steven said, via Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald. “This place has been so good to our family, so good to me, and we owe them, especially in the middle of a very trying time and a very trying season.”

That's how much coach Stevens loves the Celtics. Not even a whopping $70 million offer was enough to make him think twice about leaving Boston. Stevens is an Indiana native too, so taking up the job as the new Hoosiers head coach would have also brought him closer to home. As he implied in his statement, however, he now considers the city of Boston as his home.

For what it's worth, Stevens is reportedly earning roughly $7 million per season in the NBA. His offer from Indiana University was for seven years, which would have allowed him to pocket $10 million a season. Stevens is clearly making a lot of money with the Celtics as it is, but the difference of $3 million per year is still $3 million.

This doesn't matter to coach Brad at all, though, as he declared his unwavering loyalty to the Celtics.
