Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals exposed several weaknesses in the Boston Celtics. They could not contain Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and had trouble with the Bucks' length. More glaring, however, was the fact that the Boston bench looked thoroughly outmatched by the Milwaukee second unit.

No one played particularly well for Boston. In fact, not one Celtics bench player made more than one field goal. Forward Gordon Hayward was regrettably one of these players.

Hayward played 26 minutes and scored only two points. He shot 1-of-5 from the field and had no assists with one turnover.

This stat line is horrendous no matter who the player is. It's made even worse by the fact that the Celtics are paying him 31 million dollars this season, with around 67 million more to come over the next two years.

It's not fair to completely tear apart Hayward for a bad showing, but he has been playing poorly all season. He averaged only 11.5 points per game in the regular season, the lowest total since his rookie year. It's clear that his horrific injury has taken its toll on the once dynamic forward.

Seeing Hayward play as a shade of what he once was is heartbreaking. His Celtic future seemed to have no ceiling when he signed with them, and now he is barely playable when Boston needs him most. Hopefully, we can see Hayward make a full recovery and go back to dominating the league once again.
