Hayward sprained his ankle during a workout on Tuesday and was originally listed as questionable from Thursday's game. According to ESPN, he was playing one-on-one with teammate Semi Ojeleye.
Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said the injury was to Hayward's right ankle, not the left ankle, which was surgically repaired in October 2017.
In an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, Stevens noted that Hayward's injury doesn't seem to be that serious. The team, however, will likely be cautious with their approach.

Hayward, who did not practice on Wednesday, has made 53 appearances with the Celtics this season (17 starts), racking up averages of 11.2 points on 43.8 percent shooting from the field (33.7 percent from beyond the arc), 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 26 minutes per outing.
If Hayward is indeed ruled out, Ojeleye, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown will likely see upticks in their usage rates. Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is dealing with right knee soreness, but he's expected to play.
Thursday night's Celtics-Bucks game is scheduled to tip inside the Fiserv Forum at 8:00 p.m. ET, with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
