Boston Celtics swingman Jaylen Brown called retired first-ballot Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett his “spirit animal” this week while speaking to ESPN's Ros Gold-Onwude.

After mentioning on social media how much he loves Garnett's approach to the game, the Celtics youngster elaborated on why he idolizes the one-time NBA champion.

“Just as a young person, looking at how he carried himself on the court and his demeanor — I respected it. I think that's how the game is supposed to be approached and played, competitive … energy that he brought to the game. It's my spirit animal. I love it,” Jaylen Brown said.

“I don't always personify it the way KG did, but that's someone I definitely tap into in the future. [He's] someone I'm definitely inspired by, for sure. … He's the last person to win a championship [for the Celtics], that's something I'd like to do while I'm here with the Celtics. I'm definitely inspired by Kevin Garnett.”

Garnett, who retired after the 2015-16 NBA season, arrived in the league as one of the most widely lauded high school prospects coming out of Farragut Career Academy. The Minnesota Timberwolves made him the fifth overall pick of the 1995 draft.

KG later became a 15-time All-Star, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year (2008) and one-time league MVP (2004). He won a title with the Celtics in 2008 after an offseason trade.

Meanwhile, Brown arrived on the Celtics as the third overall pick by Boston in the 2016 draft. While he's still seeking to secure his first All-Star selection, all indications point to several All-Star berths for him after a career year with the Beantown team.
