Boston Celtics shooting guard Marcus Smart isn't happy that one of their fans called Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins the n-word.

The Celtics banned the said fan for two years. The incident took place back on Jan. 26 at the TD Garden when the Warriors were in town.

“It’s real discouraging to hear that it happened here, especially being an African-American player who plays for this organization,” Smart told Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe. “These fans cheer and I give my heart out for these fans every night, so to hear that, it is disappointing and kind of makes you rethink a little bit.

“I’ve dealt with a lot of things, here in my own city, and out of this city. I get it. I’ve seen it. I’m not surprised, and it has to be fixed, plain and simple. Obviously as a player and being in that situation before, I can understand. It’s hard to go out there and play. You focus on [basketball] and you’ve got people just out there just being really ignorant. Real, real ignorant.”

Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook got into a heated altercation with a Utah Jazz fan in Utah. The fan told Westbrook “get on your knees like you are used to.”

The Jazz banned that fan for life. Westbrook was fined $25,000 because he went on a profanity-laced rant at the fan.

Marcus Smart is 100 percent correct. Whether you play for the Celtics or not, no one at the TD Garden in Boston should be yelling out racial slurs.
