Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Kemba Walker is not discouraged by Team USA's tight win over Turkey on Tuesday in the FIBA World Cup.
USA defeated Turkey by just one point, winning by a final score of 93-92. Walker, who finished with 14 points, says winning is all that matters to him and his fellow USA teammates.
Article Continues Below“Discouraged? No,” Walker said, via NBA.com. “Far from discouraged. We won. No matter how it comes, no matter what. Much respect to Turkey. Those guys played great. It was a battle the whole game. But for us to come out with a win like that, that was incredible. I'm not discouraged at all.”
Kemba Walker shot 5-of-14 from the field in 31 minutes of action versus Turkey. He was Team USA's second-leading scorer. Milwaukee Bucks small forward Khris Middleton led Team USA with 15 points.
This Team USA roster lacks superstar power, which is why some believe the Americans might not win gold in China. Walker and the rest of his teammates hear all the noise and are embracing the underdog mentality. The players know they will face a lot of backlash if they don't bring home the gold.
Team USA will face Japan next on Thursday.
