Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie was an important part of the Nets championship hopes but now he's potentially out for the year with an ACL injury. While Dinwiddie's injury is a major loss for the Nets as a basketball team there's another reason why it hurts for the franchise.

On the daily Locked On Nets Podcast, host Doug Norrie explains why the Spencer Dinwiddie injury is such a devastating blow to the Nets' chances as a team but also as a potential trade partner.

Doug Norrie: The Spencer Dinwiddie injury is a brutal blow for two reasons. One, if he stays on the team, I think he's a guy that can probably be on a team for a championship run, at worse a deep playoff run. Then two, and I hate to say it this way, he was a major piece in whatever the Nets are putting together for trade packages. His contract was super manageable, it was probably going to be an expiring contract because he has a player option for next year that h probably would end up declining. So just on all fronts, losing Dinwiddie here for the rest of the season is nothing short of a brutal blow. Now with the injuries… I don't know if this is the condensed schedule or what's going on here but I see a lot of guys are getting injured like Ja Morant.

Adam Armbrecht: I think the personal piece of it for him, this was supposed to be a big year for him, he was going to play a different type of role with the Nets, and it very much could have been the jumping off point for him to go out into the market to earn himself a substantial payday. Hopefully, this injury doesn't impact that and hopefully, he just comes back healthy. I know that they've even speculated that if the Nets were to make the playoffs, there's some chance that Dinwiddie could return this year but there's also a scenario where we may have seen Spencer Dinwiddie for the last time in the Brooklyn Nets uniform and that's disheartening given everything that he's been able to accomplish with the team.
