The Boston Celtics are off to a blazing start to the season holding the league's best record through 24 games played with a 20-4 mark.

One of the major reasons behind that has been the promising play of rookie forward Jayson Tatum, who has stepped into a prominent role in the absence of All-Star forward Gordon Hayward. Following Saturday's win over the Phoenix Suns, All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving had much praise toward the third overall pick in this year's draft.

“[Tatum is] mature beyond his years,” Irving said. “Especially out on that basketball court, he has the ability to get to open spots and make timely jump shots as well as make drives to the basket that are kind of uncanny for a young player.”

The 19-year-old has provided a consistent scoring punch for the Celtics averaging 13.8 points on 50.2 percent from the field and a league-best 49.3 percent from beyond the arc in 30.3 minutes per contest while starting in all 24 games so far this season. This includes notching double figures in all but three times along with posting three 20-point outings.

He has also joined Larry Bird and Dave Cowens as the only three Celtics players in franchise history to record a double-double in his first career game. Tatum has also been equally as impressive in the clutch currently being tied in the NBA with 33 points on 63.2 percent shooting in the final five minutes of a game.

If Tatum can continue to provide this type of production, it could bode well in helping the Celtics make a legitimate title run this season.
