The Charlotte Hornets took on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night, and although the Cavs came away with the victory, the night belonged to Hornets' star Kemba Walker.

Walker finished with 21 points on 7-18 shooting, and on the final play of a game that was already decided, Walker scored a reverse layup to effectively put himself two points ahead of Dell Curry and atop the Hornets' all-time scoring list at number one. As he trotted back to the Hornets side of the court, all fans in the arena, whether they were Hornets or Cavs fans, were on their feet giving Kemba a loud ovation.

After the game, Walker met with Hornets' sideline reporter Stephanie Ready, but before he could answer any of her questions, his emotions got the best of him and he began tearing up. After wiping his face with a towel, Walker responded to his career-night.

“I'm not supposed to be here. A lot of people where I'm from don't make it. Through my Lord and Savior, my family, a lot of hard work. It's been a long ride, but this is a huge accomplishment. I'm excited and I wish it was a better game. I wish I would've played a little better, but it's a great accomplishment.

“I want to be as good as I can. They usually say as you get older, you can't get better, but that's not true. I'm living proof. I try to work hard each and every day to become a better player .There's always doubts about me and I always want to prove people wrong so that's what I try to do.

“Anything is possible… If i can do it anybody can. Through hard work, through dedication, you've got to push yourself each and every day for what you want and it's possible that it'll come true.”

The Bronx native in Walker had to endure a seven-win season his rookie year with the Hornets, then the Charlotte Bobcats. He's made the playoffs twice and recently said he's tired of missing the postseason, while also having made the NBA All-Star team two years in a row.

Walker and the Hornets likely won't make the postseason this year, but the feeling around the league is that the talent level of Kemba's is being wasted a bit with a Hornets team that's been unable to surround him with enough talent to make the playoffs or legitimately compete in the East.
