Newly-acquired Charlotte Hornets point guard Ramon Sessions is giving back to his alma mater, the University of Nevada.

The 30-year-old donated $1 million towards the development of a new basketball facility, which will be named after him — the Ramon Sessions Basketball Performance Center.

The 10-year NBA veteran talked about what it meant for him to help the school that gave him a chance to get to where he is now, as reported by Matt Rochinski of hornets.com:

“For me, giving back to the University of Nevada means a lot, this was always a second home for me, a place that gave me a chance when a lot of schools didn’t.”

“I know the coaches are excited about (the new facility). And once this gets going, I know the (Reno) community will be excited about it.”

The university's President, Marc Johnson, released a statement, thanking Sessions for the amount he gave and described how he has represented the Wolf Pack even after his days in Reno:

“We thank Ramon Sessions for this truly transformative gift. Never before in the history of the University has a former student-athlete made such a significant—and program-changing commitment.  His donation will allow Wolf Pack athletics to better serve all of our student-athletes for generations to come.  Since leaving campus in 2007 to pursue his dreams, Ramon has represented the University and the northern Nevada community with great dignity and class.   We are so proud of Ramon, and grateful for his generosity and the generosity of the other key donors in our community that have made the Ramon Sessions Basketball Performance Center a reality.”

The seven-figure donation made by the former 56th pick of the 2007 draft is the biggest amount given by any of the school's alumni.
