Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose says playing against Jason Kidd during his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls was the first time he was in awe on a basketball court.
Rose admits he was too scared to talk to Kidd on the court.
“It was J-Kidd. I think that was the first time I ever was in awe on the court being a professional,” Rose told Dan Patrick on the Dan Patrick Show. “I was playing against J-Kidd, I think he was playing for Dallas at the time. It was just a matchup…just one of them things where it was like man, I'm actually playing against a Hall of Famer, somebody that I looked up to.”

Jason Kidd is one of the best points guards in NBA history. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018. Kidd has career averages of 12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists.
Derrick Rose, who signed a two-year deal with the Pistons this summer, was able to hold his own whenever he played against Kidd. Rose went 3-2 in his career versus Kidd and averaged 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.6 assists. Kidd, meanwhile, put up 6.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists in five games against D-Rose.
The youngest MVP in NBA history, Rose averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. All signs point toward Rose backing up Reggie Jackson on the Pistons next season unless Detroit decides to trade Jackson, who is in the final year of his contract.
