James Wiseman has yet to feature for the Golden State Warriors this season as the former No. 2 overall pick continues to recover from a knee injury. It's been almost a full year since Wiseman took the field, but it looks as if the 20-year-old is inching closer to getting back into game action. The latest update on Wiseman's knee injury, offered by GM Bob Myers on Tuesday morning, via Anthony Slater, revealed the second-year center is advancing to 5-on-5 scrimmaging for the first time in his rehabilitation.

Slater reports that Wiseman's 5-on-5 scrimmages will consist of younger players, coaches, and staffers from the facility in San Francisco.

Wiseman last played for the Warriors back in April of 2021. He played in 39 games as a rookie, starting 21. The former Memphis star and No. 2 overall pick averaged 11.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game last season across 21.4 minutes per night. With Golden State utilizing Kevon Looney in the largest role of his career (21.9 minutes per game), getting Wiseman back in action would help the team utilize larger lineups while also getting Looney back to being more of a role player.

Having dropped three of their last four games, including matchups with the Clippers and Knicks, the Warriors could certainly lose a boost in the near future, and they may just get that in Wiseman. The Warriors have slipped to five games behind the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference, so the sooner they're able to get reinforcements back including the likes of Wiseman and Draymond Green, the sooner they'll be able to claw back up the standings.
