The NBA is known for its late-night, Earth-shattering trades. Yet another instance of this took place on Saturday night. The Los Angeles Lakers traded Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic, a move that changes the future of both franchises tremendously.

This trade pairs LeBron James with a player many see as his heir apparent. It also pairs Doncic with a player he admired growing up. These two superstars share very similar stylistic traits in how they attack defenses. In 2018, Doncic even called LeBron his idol.

If anything is know about this trade from the Lakers and their fans' perspective, it's that they can't wait for Luka to team up with his idol.

Doncic is now undoubtedly the future of the Lakers, as James has a young All-NBA talent to hand the torch to whenever he announces his farewell from the game.

The 25-year-old star idolizes LeBron, which makes the transition to Los Angeles as smooth as possible.

There are some basketball questions about how both players fit playing off the ball alongside one another, but these are arguably the two best playmakers in the entire league. Opposing defenses will break trying to contain the Lakers' new two-man game, as both players can screen for one another.

Not to mention, they are lethal passers.

It is no secret that LeBron would like fewer ball-handling duties, especially since he's been handing the keys to starting guard Austin Reaves.

The Lakers just gave James the best shot-creator in the league by trading for Doncic, an all-time passer that can't be contained in isolation sets. This trade lifts the offensive burden for James in ways he has not seen since his Miami or Cleveland days.

Without Davis and his defensive prowess, the Lakers will undoubtedly have questions to answer with the roster. The center position now needs a significant upgrade a week before the trade deadline, and their starting shooting guard, Max Christie, also exited LA in the trade with Dallas.

Finding the defensive pieces to surround Doncic and James won't be easy with just days until the deadline.

Even with all of these questions, the Lakers now set themselves up for success over the next decade. James will get to ride out to the sunset with Luka by his side.
