Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic will face his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, four times throughout the 2025-26 campaign. Upon the NBA’s release of the regular season schedule, fans will have the opportunity to tune into all four matchups throughout the season. While some predict an MVP-caliber season for Doncic, who will begin his first whole campaign with the Lakers this upcoming season, he’ll get his fair share of contests against the Mavericks.
Doncic and the Lakers will first host the Mavericks on November 28 before facing them three more times between then and April, per The Athletic’s Christian Clark.
“4 Mavericks-Lakers games this season: Nov. 28: Dallas at L.A. Jan. 24: Dallas vs. L.A. Feb. 12: Dallas at L.A. April 5: Dallas vs. L.A. All of them nationally televised,” Clark reported.
Doncic’s body transformation has been the talk of his offseason, with his weight loss sparking expectations of a dominant season. When the Mavericks shockingly traded Doncic to the Lakers ahead of a potential max contract extension, his conditioning reportedly factored into Dallas’ decision to part ways with the five-time All-Star who led the Mavs to the NBA Finals in 2024.
Doncic’s head coach of the Slovenian men’s basketball team, Aleksander Sekulić, weighed in on the conversation, stating Luka’s body transformation has also led to a change in the veteran’s approach to the game, per Meridian Sport.
“Luka has changed the way he works, but whether he’s in better shape or not, we’ll see,” Sekulić said. “He can’t be at his peak right now – he’s only just started basketball-specific training. He’s not yet the real Dončić, and we all know what that looks like on the court. The most important thing is that Luka is very motivated, that he came here to do something special with the national team, and then be ready to start the new season.”
NBA scout predicts Luka Doncic's revenge MVP season with Lakers

One NBA scout said Lakers guard Luka Doncic is a man on a mission. Pointing at Luka’s new and improved appearance, he believes Doncic’s new look will help improve his offense in 2025-26, per Dallas Hoops Journal.
“Man, he looks incredible,” the scout said. “He’s quicker and more explosive. He’s getting by people more easily. I think he’s on a mission, man.”
The scout believes Doncic’s mission is to win the NBA MVP.
“I think he’s going to win MVP and the scoring title next season,” the scout said. “He wants to get revenge on Dallas for basically fat-shaming him.”
The Lakers will host the Warriors on Opening Night on October 21.
