Adam Silver has never been shy to speak his mind, especially about controversial topics. One of the things he has been continuously been vocal about is his desire to make sports betting legal across the country.

The NBA commissioner recently gave his thoughts about it again, via ESPN's Ben Fawkes, where he stated that he has a strong feeling it will be legalized in the next few years. He also said that it would keep the fans more entertained and follow sports leagues even closer.

“My sense is the law will change in the next few years in the United States.”

“People want to bet throughout the game … It results in enormous additional engagement with the fans.”

Even as early as 2014, Silver has already spoken about his agreement in its legalization, through a piece he made via The New York Times, with the title “Legalize and Regulate Sports Betting.” He made his case known about the need of the government to regulate and monitor the estimated $400 billion being wagered each year.

While the subject remains controversial, its possible move to become permissible by law will lessen the underground betting that is currently happening. The bettors will also be protected by law, and will make their bets safer.
