The NBA is unyielding in its efforts to promote the league on the international stage. The Asian country of India, possessing one of the world's largest populations, has been identified by the Association as a primary global expansion area.
It was NBA Commissioner Adam Silver himself who conveyed the news, speaking to the press in the recently concluded Indian leg of the Jr. NBA World Championship, per the Hindustan Times.
“We are potentially looking to play a game in Mumbai, may be next year. It would be a pre-season game,” claims Silver.
As confirmed by the commissioner, the league's plan to hold an exhibition game in the Indian city of Mumbai has been set in motion. Bringing the sport, along with some of the biggest superstars of the league, to the country would be the best way to promote the NBA in India. For the local market, no amount of promotions and advertisements can match seeing and enjoying the game first hand.

Silver added that the planned trip will also be a good learning opportunity for not only the Association, but for the participating players as well.
“If we do a pre-season game, we can build time and our players and their families can spend time, learn about the country’s culture,” he added. “We are very focused on the Indian market.”
India obviously possesses one of the biggest potential markets for the NBA. Establishing itself in the nation is a must if the league hopes to further expand its reach globally.
