The former Duke basketball player hit 19-of-25 three-point shots during a shooting drill at the combine. McCain is one of several high-profile college basketball players performing at the combine this year, along with Purdue's Zach Edey and USC's Bronny James.
McCain and the Blue Devils

McCain had an outstanding season for Duke basketball in 2023-24. The guard averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds a game, while playing more than 31 minutes a contest. He finished the season shooting 46 percent from the field, including an impressive 41 percent from three-point range. It appears he hasn't lost his stroke since the end of the season. With McCain in the backcourt, the Blue Devils finished the season with a trip to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight.
The guard was a highly-sought recruit coming out of high school. McCain was a consensus five-star when he went to Durham. He lived up to that reputation, during his one season at Duke. He had two 30-point scoring games in the NCAA Tournament this season, including 32 points in the Elite Eight loss to North Carolina State. He declared for the NBA draft at the conclusion of the season, along with Kyle Filipowski. Both players started every game for Duke this past season.
“I love — I love — Duke. I mean, that was the best year of my life. I’ve said it a lot but I loved it. So it was a tough decision to leave Duke. But it was the best decision for me and my career,” McCain said, per the News and Observer.
The guard is now focused on getting selected as a lottery pick in the NBA Draft. McCain says he tries to avoid social media as much as possible, to prepare himself and stay focused.
“I’m really big on being present,” McCain added. “So for social media, I had my TikTok, so that was something I did have throughout the season, but Instagram I didn’t really have, so I didn’t really see too much of the (draft) projections. or anything like that. And I told my family to not really tell me anything and my agent not really telling me anything.”
Duke basketball's projections next season
Blue Devils fans are certainly sad to see McCain go. There's a lot of excitement, though, heading into next season. Duke basketball is projected to be one of the best teams in the country. The team has a stellar recruiting class, with no. 1 high school prospect Cooper Flagg joining the squad. Flagg is one of a treasure trove of freshmen heading to Duke.
The Blue Devils have a lot to replace. Along with McCain and Filipowski, point guard Jeremy Roach has left the squad. Roach entered the transfer portal this offseason, before heading to Baylor. There's a lot of change heading to Durham, but Duke basketball fans have several reasons to be excited.
