As Michigan State basketball head coach Tom Izzo is leading the team to wins, as he has been since 1995, fans could also be thinking about who would be an eventual successor or a big name that could be the future of the program. While Izzo will continue to coach the Michigan State basketball team for the foreseeable future, one choice that people have been heavily speculating about is Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green.
Still with the Warriors and turning 36 years old on Wednesday, the Spartans alumnus has always been a popular choice, as he would be asked by Brandon “Scoops B” Robinson about potentially coaching in the program when his NBA career is over.
“Michigan State is obviously home for me, and it is a place that is near and dear to my heart. I am aware that I actually have an NBA team that is the same,” Green said. “I am very blessed to be in a place for 14 years, so this is like my alma mater as well. When you are tied so closely to places like I am, you ultimately always want to help those places. I do not know where my journey takes me, and I wish I could see down the road, but at the end of the day, I want to land the plane smoothly as I finish my career and then figure out the rest after.”
Draymond Green doesn't rule out coaching Michigan State basketball

Green has spoken about potentially coaching the Michigan State basketball team before, even talking about it on his own self-titled show. While he would not “foresee it happening,” his answer has changed over the years, even saying that he “won't rule it out.”
“I’ve always said, ‘Hell no, I’m not coaching college basketball,’” Green said on Dec. 22, 2025. “The reality is, as I get older, the more I think about it, the more I look at the landscape, it’s not a ‘hell no.’”
