Michigan were the top seed in the tournament and were ranked 4th in the country before the game. They also came into the game as the 5-point favorites. While the 9th ranked Ohio State squad came into Lucas Oil Stadium and pulled off the win. That is likely to change after this impressive upset.
The Buckeyes will face off against the winner of the 3rd seed Iowa Hawkeyes and the 2nd seed Illinois Fighting Illini.
Despite a balanced scoring attack from Michigan in which Franz Wagner put up 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, and center Hunter Dickinson led the Wolverines with 21 points, the Buckeyes were led by a stellar performance from junior guard Duane Washington Jr.
DWJ put up an excellent stat line of 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists to help deliver the win to Ohio State. In his third season, the 6-foot-3 guard was named to the All-Big Ten team after putting up 15.5 points per game on a career-high 55.1 shooting percentage.
Sophomore forward E.J. Liddell who led the team in scoring throughout the season also had a big game. Liddell finished the game with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The other Big Ten semifinal game has tipped off, with the winner facing off against Ohio State.
