Overall, the 2022-23 season was a successful one for the Texas A&M Aggies basketball team. They finished with an overall record of 25-10 and 15-3 in SEC Conference play. They made it to the SEC Tournament championship game where they lost to Alabama who was ranked the No. 2 team in the nation at the time. They suffered disappointment in the NCAA Tournament, however, as they lost in the first round to Penn State. Texas A&M received surprising news this week when it was revealed that reserve guard Andre Gordon had entered the transfer portal as per Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports. Gordon is the sixth Aggie to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Andre Gordon joined fellow Texas A&M players Erik Pratt, Javonte Brown-Ferguson, KK Robinson, Jordan Williams and Ashton Smith to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Currently, Jordan Williams has found a new team in Vanderbilt. Gordon is a fifth-year player having played his entire college basketball career thus far at Texas A&M.
Gordon had carved out a key role off the Aggies bench over the past four seasons. He holds career averages of 5.1 points per game, 2.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists with splits of 36.7 percent shooting from the field, 32.1 percent shooting from the three-point line and 71 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
There's no doubt that the transfer portal has changed the college basketball landscape forever and has not only evened the playing field a bit between high majors and low/mid majors, but has given players more control over their futures. But entering the transfer portal this late in the offseason when most teams already have set rosters is an interesting decision.
