After helping the Los Angeles Rams take down the San Francisco 49ers in a rare thriller on a Thursday night NFL game, former California Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff made an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter to talk about his performance.
Goff passed for 292 yards and three touchdowns without an interception on 22 of 28 attempts, easily one his best games in his nascent NFL career. And just before the show’s hosts Michael Smith and Jemele Hill let Goff off the hook, they asked him for his prediction for this Saturday’s showdown between his undefeated alma mater and the also unbeaten USC Trojans. (Both schools are wielding an immaculate 3-0 record.)
To that, Goff didn’t waste much time to respond, cheering “Go Bears!” and saying California would go “4-0”.
It’s good to know for California fans that Goff remains highly optimistic of his Golden Bears in this matchup. California has been winless in its last 13 matchups with the Trojans, a stretch that began way back in 2004.
California also enters the game as a 17-point spread underdog, which means its chances of winning its fourth-straight game is in deep trouble. The Trojans, on the other hand, are on the heels of a 27-24 double-overtime win over the Texas Longhorns. Prior to that, USC took down then-No. 14 Stanford, 42-24.
On Saturday evening, we will find out just how great Jared Goff is at picking games. As far as his NFL career is concerned, he might still have some work to do before we know just what kind of gunslinger he is.
