Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is still unable to play in any home games at the Barclays Center due to New York City's vaccine mandates. However, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has chimed in and believes that it's not fair Kyrie can't suit up yet away players are allowed to.

Via Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic:

In all fairness, Silver does have a point. If a player is unvaccinated like the Nets star and they travel to Brooklyn, what's saying they can't contract COVID-19 just like anyone else? Saying that Irving needs to be vaxxed should be a double-edged sword when it comes to visiting teams as well.

As the commissioner pointed out, there are more and more people out and about without masks in NYC. We're slowly getting over this pandemic and it wouldn't be a surprise to eventually see the vaccine mandate dropped. But one thing is for sure, Kyrie doesn't plan on changing his stance, despite how many games he might miss for the Nets.

It's unfortunate he thinks this way because having the veteran on the floor on a more consistent basis would do wonders. Perhaps James Harden would've actually stayed if that was the case. Nevertheless, the Nets managed to get some intriguing pieces in Seth Curry, Ben Simmons, and Andre Drummond out of the blockbuster trade. Let's hope it can help them make a deep playoff run. Well, as long as Kevin Durant is healthy.
