One of the more surprising rises to relevance in the league this season has come out of Brooklyn from point guard Spencer Dinwiddie. As a result, the Nets have unsurprisingly decided to guarantee the contract of Dinwiddie for the remainder of the 2017-18 NBA season, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders.

The development can be considered a no-brainer as the 24-year-old Colorado product has held the fort down as their starting point guard with D'Angelo Russell continuing to recover from his injury. His averages also includes 45.5 percent shooting from inside the 3-point line and 3.0 rebounds as well. But beyond the numbers he provides, he has shown a lot of maturity in his game which could reward him with consistent playing time even when Russell returns to action.

Dinwiddie was originally a second round pick back in 2014 and spent his first three seasons in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons. He was also assigned multiple times to the Grand Rapids Drive of the G-League during that span, where he received additional workouts and gained more experience.

All the hardwork he's put in the past has now paid off as Dinwiddie has set himself up for a lot of success in the future. Despite also having another non-guaranteed deal for the 2018-19 campaign, he will most  likely make the Nets roster again barring any major setback. Should that happen, he will receive $250,000 before earning the remainder of the veteran's minimum deal of $1.66 million if the team once again guarantees his deal ahead of the January deadline. If he continues to play at the same level, or even surpass it, Dinwiddie will definitely have the opportunity to sign a more lucrative contract after next season.
