The NFL has faced a ton of turbulence within the past few weeks, both leading up to and shortly following the Super Bowl. There's the Brian Flores lawsuit. There's the ongoing investigations on the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders franchises. Then of course there was the shock announcement of Tom Brady's retirement from football.

But amidst all of the chaos, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is rumored to be negotiating a new deal for himself to extend beyond his current contract, which reportedly runs through 2024. The report comes from Ben Fischer and John Ourand of Sports Business Journal.

Via SBJ:

Sources said Goodell’s negotiations are centered on extending his current deal for between two to four years beyond its expiration date of March 2024. He reportedly made $63.9 million in each of the past two seasons as part of his current incentive-laden deal. The economic framework of a potential new deal is unknown.

At the crux of Roger Goodell's case to extend as the NFL's most powerful official is reportedly the fact that nobody is in line to replace him. With the slew of issues constantly on the league's plate, it's hard to imagine a change in leadership anytime soon.
