The Philadelphia Eagles were a team on a mission on Sunday with their main objective to earn a trip to Super Bowl LII. Although they accomplished that mission with a dominant 38-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Conference Championship Game, the Eagles did not make it out unscathed.
Following the win, quarterback Nick Foles reportedly had X-rays taken on his ribs. Fortunately, Eagles fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Foles confirmed the examination was just a precaution, according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio:
“They were just checking,” Foles said. “I’m good. I’m good.”
Foles took his fair share of licks against a Vikings defense hoping to make its presence felt. Needless to say, he simply could not be deterred after completing 26 of his 33 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns.
Philadelphia has come a long way since the season-ending knee injury to starting quarterback Carson Wentz. Many had counted the Eagles out as soon as Wentz went down during the regular season. However, head coach Doug Pederson made it clear they were going to make whatever necessary adjustments they needed to make Foles more comfortable on offense.
Foles had been pretty shaky leading up to Sunday's game. He was largely a game manager in Philadelphia's 15-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Divisional Round. However, he let fly this time around and it certainly paid off.
The Eagles managed to dodge a bullet with no significant damage to Foles' ribs. Philadelphia will now have quite a bit of time to rest up and prepare for the heavily-favored New England Patriots for their Super Bowl showdown in a couple of weeks.
