After the Minnesota Vikings took Mike Hughes with their first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Mike Zimmer compared cornerbacks to guns, crafting the message to a commercial on TV.
That is exactly how Zimmer, a defensive-minded coach feels about cornerbacks. You can't ever have enough.

After picking up a few cornerbacks over the weekend through the draft and rookie free agency, they decided to bring back one of their veterans on Monday afternoon. According to the Vikings official website, they have re-signed Terance Newman to another one-year deal.

Newman was the Cowboys first-round pick in the 2003 draft where Zimmer was the defensive backs coach. Newman will turn 40 in September, making him the oldest player on the defensive side of the ball in the league.
Although he has lost a bit of a step, he is still a very good NFL player and played the third most snaps of any corner on the Vikings last year.
The Vikings will no doubt count on him for contributions on the field, but his bigger contributions this year might be off of it.
Last year, when the Vikings selected Dalvin Cook, there were some concerned about his character issues. The Vikings put him under the wing of Newman and he did nothing but excel in his first year in the league.
There are also some who have concerns about Mike Hughes off the field issues and he will now have Newman to lean on to help learn the ropes of the NFL.
For Hughes and the Vikings, Newman is going to be a huge help in his development.
