The Buffalo Sabres find themselves surging up the standings, thanks to some improved play from their defense in tandem with their top-tier offense. With the NHL trade deadline looming, the Sharks could end up being buyers and have reportedly set their sights on one of the league's most coveted trade targets, Timo Meier.

According to the latest NHL rumors from Pierre LeBrun Sportsnet, the Sabres are among the teams that figure to pursue San Jose Sharks winger Timo Meier at the deadline, having already reached out to San Jose.

Meier has been linked to a handful of teams already, despite the trade deadline being more than one month away. Among the rumored interested parties include the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, both of whom are looking to add some more depth to their attacking lines.

The thought of Timo Meier paired on a line with Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch would certainly be a sight to behold. Similar to Jeff Skinner, Meier can provide both a dangerous shot from anywhere on the ice, as well as a strong physical presence, never afraid to shy away from making a big hit.

In 2022-23, Meier has 48 points in 49 games, including 28 goals which has him tied for 10th in the league with Oilers star Leon Draisaitl. The 26-year-old Swiss native has attempted 223 shots this season (4.55 per game) and has 106 hits, which ranks 33rd among NHL forwards. A line with him and Thompson would be absolutely lethal, and the Sabres seem keen on exploring the opportunity of landing a Timo Meier trade in a deadline deal with the Sharks.

The Sabres' young core is developing nicely this season, and despite currently being a fringe playoff team, Buffalo seems ready to get involved in the chase for Meier at the deadline, per the most recent NHL rumors.
