The Edmonton Oilers have finally snatched the series lead in the first round of the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings, with Evander Kane and company scoring an 8-2 home win in Game 3 Friday night. There's no way the Kings feel anything good about such a devastating loss, especially when considering that they also got absolutely dominated in Game 2, which was a 6-0 road loss for Todd McLellan's team.

Todd McLellan, the Kings' head coach, did not hold back when he spoke to the media after Game 3, as he expressed his frustrations over the overall performance of the Kings.

Via Lisa Dillman of The Athletic:

“You know what — we can do this really quick tonight,” McLellan said. “I can summarize it all up for you. We can all go home. We weren’t any good. We’re really disappointed. We got trapped playing their game.

“You can ask me about individuals. I’ll give you the same answer for all of them.”

McLellan continued, saying: “They (the players) weren’t any good. And we have to regroup tomorrow. Grunny didn’t play because he had an injury.

The Kings actually won the possession battle, outshooting the Oilers, 46-37, but Edmonton got away with a lot more premium looks at the net. Jonathan Quick started the game and allowed four goals on just 17 shots faced. Cal Peterson would finish the game in the net for Los Angeles, though, he did not fare well either, stopping just 16shots on 20 faced.

Even though the series is still just headed to Game 4, it does feel as though the Kings are on the ropes, given the way the Oilers have dismantled them the past couple of meetings. That being said, it takes just a win on Sunday at home for the Kings to recapture the momentum. Needless to say, they are going to need a stouter defense and a much more productive attack to get back on track.
