The New Orleans Pelicans had one of the deadliest offenses in the NBA before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19. The team was averaging 116.2 points per game and had its eyes set on making the playoffs with 2019 No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson leading the way.

The Pelicans went 10-9 with Williamson in the lineup. Zion averaged 23.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists for the squad and appears he's going to dominate the NBA for the next decade or so assuming he stays healthy.

New Orleans has one of the best young cores in the league. It features Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Jaxson Hayes, Nicolo Melli and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The Pelicans are widely expected to re-sign Ingram when he enters restricted free agency whenever the 2020 offseason period begins. He averaged 24.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists for the Pelicans before the campaign was put to a halt.

There aren't a lot of transactions Pelicans exec David Griffin needs to make to turn the team into a title contender. The youngsters on the club just need to develop over time and establish chemistry with each other.

In a few years, New Orleans could have the best frontcourt duo in the NBA with Williamson and Ingram once the two stars hit their primes.

However, being the astute basketball mind that he is, Griffin will likely try and find small trades he can make here and there to improve the Pelicans. The team needs big man and bench depth moving forward.

Derrick Favors becomes an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, so New Orleans might have to replace him if the veteran decides to sign with another team.

Griffin would be wise to pursue a trade for a power forward or center who is not getting a lot of playing time on his current team. A guy like Bobby Portis could fit with the Pelicans since he can play the power forward and center spots while also stretching the floor with his shooting.

The current New York Knicks big man also plays with the passion and spirit fans in the Big Easy love seeing from their players.

Only time will tell what move Griffin decides to make. He could even stand pat and let his current roster build together since they are so young and talented.
