The Washington Wizards last week made the decision to match the four-year, $106 million offer sheet by the Brooklyn Nets to bring back forward Otto Porter.

It has kept together their core group that will at least keep them as a playoff team in the Eastern Conference for the foreseeable future. However, Porter recently told  AJ Neuharth-Keusch of USA TODAY Sports that the Wizards “desperately” need to win an NBA title.

“I’m just looking forward to getting back out there with the guys, getting back to the playoffs … working my tail off going forward, trying to get a championship and bring it here to the city,” Porter said at his contract extension press conference on Wednesday. “Because we need it desperately.”

It has been quite awhile since Washington last won an NBA title, dating back to the 1977-78 season when Hall of Famer Wes Unseld was the face of the franchise. In fact, it's currently the sixth longest championship drought in the league.

The Wizards have made the playoffs in three of the last four seasons, which saw them exit in the Eastern Conference semifinals in each trip. This includes falling in seven games to the Boston Celtics last season.

That said, Washington is still a clear notch below the Cleveland Cavaliers and possibly even more so to the Celtics after the acquisition of Gordon Hayward. Unless the Wizards add another superstar talent to their roster, it will likely see them suffer another playoff exit in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
