San Diego Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar suffered a scary head injury on Thursday night and was immediately removed from the game. The team announced that Profar has been diagnosed with a concussion and cervical strain in his neck. The Padres added that he was discharged from the hospital.

Profar got injured in the bottom of the fifth inning against the San Francisco Giants. As he and Padres shortstop C.J. Abrams both pursued a pop-up, Profar dove for the ball. His face collided with Abrams' knee.

The Padres initially allowed Profar to try walking off the field before he stumbled to the ground and was removed from the field via a medical cart. He raised his fist to the crowd as the medical staff escorted him out.

This injury is a major blow to San Diego. In 83 games this season, Jurickson Profar posted a triple slash of .242/.343/.397 and recorded 75 hits, 20 doubles and eight home runs. The 29-year-old's OPS of .740 ranks fourth on the team (among qualified players) and is the best by a lot among the Padres outfielders.

San Diego is six games back in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. With one of their key position players now injured, their activity ahead of the trade deadline should ramp up.
