Multiple veteran players are still waiting to put pen to paper on a new deal in free agency, including cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who finished off the 2021 campaign with the Carolina Panthers.

Gilmore began last season with the New England Patriots before they shipped him off to the Panthers ahead of the NFL trade deadline. After being activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Gilmore went on to feature in eight games for the Panthers, where he recorded 16 tackles and two interceptions.

In the big picture, Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer is not ruling out the possibility of re-signing Gilmore.

“The door’s still open,” Fitterer said during a press conference on Friday.

Fitterer further added that he well recognizes Gilmore is “looking for the right situation” in free agency.

Gilmore noted earlier in the month that he simply wants to go to a place where he can “continue to win and also get a good deal.”

Gilmore has been linked with the likes of the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals, although it remains to be seen whether either of the two will soon go all out to sign the veteran cornerback.

The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year award winner has so far featured in 10 seasons in the league, where he has logged 427 tackles and 27 interceptions.
