Rumors of a quarterback trade between the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings have been flying recently. But how realistic is it that the Panthers could acquire quarterback Kirk Cousins in the 2022 NFL Offseason?

According to an article by Panthers Wire writer Anthony Rizzuti, it's not very likely. He noted Ian Rapoport's recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. The NFL insider told McAfee that he doesn't expect Cousins to leave Minnesota, and acknowledged the actuality of the situation.

“Honestly, it’s also very hard to replace him anyway. Contract’s fully guaranteed and there’s massive cap implications if they move on,” Rapoport said (quotes courtesy of Panthers Wire).

Rapoport said that he believes that the Panthers “will probably call on everyone because they are obviously looking for a quarterback.” To put it plainly, as of Tuesday when he spoke with McAfee, the trade seems unrealistic and unprobable to Rapoport.

Recent reports came out that Cousins does not plan on taking a pay cut in Minnesota. If the Vikings extend his contract, it could cost them about $40 million a year.

Cousins just finished his fourth season with the Vikings. He threw for 4,221 yards and 33 touchdowns in 16 games with a 66.3 completion percentage.

As the 2022 NFL Offseason continues, the Panthers, like many other teams, will continue their search for a quarterback. It doesn't seem like they will be getting one from Minnesota.
