New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will be suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. Edelman’s ban raised some suspicion around Tom Brady’s infamous close friend, business, partner, and trainer Alex Guerrero, who also works with other Patriots like Edelman and Rob Gronkowski.

Brady was asked about his body guru being connected by some to Edelman’s PED suspension, and he didn’t respond well to that question.

“No comment. It’s ridiculous. I’m out,” Brady said, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Brady subsequently walked off after delivering his short but forceful answer.

Guerrero released a statement shortly after Edelman’s suspension where he expressed his disappointment at the Pats wideout. Guerrero said he doesn’t condone using performance-enhancing substances and pointed out that Edelman works with multiple trainers and coaches aside from him.

Guerrero has emerged as quite the controversial figure within the Patriots over the last year or so. With Guerrero’s close ties to Brady, his influence within the team has grown significantly, to the dismay of Bill Belichick. The Patriots head coach is not a fan of Guerrero’s methods and the fact that he’s gained a lot of power through his relationships with several players.

It remains to be seen exactly what involvement, if any, Guerrero actually had with Edelman’s positive test. It's certainly possible that Edelman did act independently of Guerrero as he looked to quicken his progress from a torn ACL. Regardless, it’s clear that Brady is ready to back his friend against those serious allegations being levied against him.
