The NBA world is in its feet, waiting for New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson to make his long-awaited NBA debut. While the No. 1 overall selection has already given NBA fans a taste test of what his skills are all about in the preseason, nothing is more iconic than doing so when the stat sheet counts.

Williamson has been warmly welcomed in The Big Easy, allowing for its people to freshly turn the page from the Anthony Davis fiasco and welcome another promising talent to the city.

“It’s been great, man. The city is beautiful. The people are beautiful as well. They’re welcoming. I feel like they adopted me a bit,” said Zion Williamson, according to William Guillory of The Athletic. “I know the people of New Orleans are going to show a lot of love because that’s what they do.”

Historically, New Orleans is a city that effusively welcomes its stars: Baron Davis, Chris Paul, David West, Anthony Davis, and now Pelicans rookie sensation Williamson.

The Big Easy has indeed embraced Williamson, who is expected to allow the Pelicans to accelerate their rebuild immensely, virtually trading a former No. 1 pick for another in Zion.

But Williamson has embraced New Orleans back as well, the 19-year-old isn't just one of their residents, but one of their people. The 6-foot-6 forward recently signed a sneaker endorsement deal with Jordan Brand, and he was seen donning a “Bayou” exclusive version of the Jordan 34s, to the enjoyment of the local press.

Everything seems to be trending in the right direction for the Pelicans rookie prior to his debut against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday — and rest assured plenty of people in the Bayou will be cheering his every bucket.
