New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is still at least a few weeks from making his 2021-22 NBA season debut. Pelicans head coach Willie Green spoke to reporters Monday and said while the team is encouraged by the latest scans on Williams' foot injury, he's still not cleared to be a full participant in practice and there will be more scans done in two to three weeks to determine the next steps.

Here's more from the Pelicans beat:

As much as the Pelicans want to spin this, this is brutal news for a team that has started the season 1-6 without Williamson in the lineup. At this rate, it feels like it would be a miracle if Zion is back on the floor in November.

Williamson is recovering from offseason foot surgery that wasn't made public until Pelicans Media Day. At that press conference, David Griffin tried to say there was hope that Zion would be ready for the start of the regular season, but it soon became clear that wasn't going to happen. Griffin later backtracked in an ill-fated attempt to save face.

With Williamson set to miss several more weeks, the Pelicans are in big trouble, especially with Brandon Ingram already hurting. This season in New Orleans could be dead in the water by the time Zion is even ready to play.

Furthermore, who knows how long it will take for Williamson to get back into game shape when he actually is healthy enough to return. There have been some concerns about his weight, so that will be something to monitor.

With all the rumors out there surrounding Zion's future in New Orleans, this is turning into a worse-cast scenario. The Pelicans just have to hope their phenom is back as soon as possible and they can turn things around.
